Missed call text back for electricians
By JP, who runs Ralphio. Updated 8 October 2026.
You can't take a call with your head in a loft or a consumer unit open. A missed call text goes out within seconds, asks what the job is, and gets you what you need to quote it: a rewire, a consumer unit, an EV charger or a landlord's certificate. It works on the number you already have.
What do an electrician's missed calls turn into?
- A rewire, or part of one.
- A consumer unit change.
- Extra sockets, lights or an outside supply.
- An EV charger.
- An electrical inspection report (EICR) for a landlord, a letting agent or a buyer.
Each needs different details before you can price it, and the caller usually won't know which. That is why the text asks about the job and doesn't just say sorry.
It matters because people don't leave voicemails. In a 2023 survey of 2,000 people, 54% said they won't leave one if they can't get through, and they ring the next electrician instead.
What do you need to ask before you can quote?
| Job | Worth asking for |
|---|---|
| Rewire | Type and size of property, whether anyone is living in it, a photo of the consumer unit |
| Consumer unit | A photo of the current one, and the type of property |
| Sockets, lights, outside supply | Which rooms or where, and how many |
| EV charger | Where the car parks, how far that is from the fuse box, and whether they own or rent |
| Inspection report (EICR) | Type of property and bedrooms, whether it is let at the moment, and the date they need it by |
The first text can't ask all of that. It asks what the job is and where, then follows up on the answer.
Why landlords are worth a quick reply
Private landlords in England must have the electrical installation checked at least every five years by a properly qualified person, according to GOV.UK. That makes inspection reports repeat work, from landlords and letting agents. Someone working to a tenancy start date wants an answer today, so they ring the next name if you don't pick up.
What does the text exchange look like?
An example, not a real customer:
Cole Electrical: Hi, it's Cole Electrical. Sorry I missed your call, I'm on a job. What work are you after a price for, and where are you based?
Caller: Need an electrical report for a 2 bed flat I let out. New tenants move in on the 1st. M20
Cole Electrical: Thanks. Is it empty at the moment, and how many bedrooms?
What reaches you is the whole thing in one message: inspection report, 2-bed flat, M20, needed before the 1st, with the number to ring. You get to the van, read that, and ring back with a price.
What is a rewire worth?
One published 2026 cost guide puts a 3-bed house rewire at £5,500 to £8,000 outside London and the South East, and says it takes 7 to 10 days on site. Prices change with the house, so use your own average job in the missed call calculator. One job lost to the next name on the list costs a lot more than a text.
How does Ralphio work for electricians?
You divert the calls you don't answer to a Ralphio number, and the caller gets a text from your business within seconds. It asks what the job is, collects the answers above, and sends you a lead with their number. It can ask a couple of follow-up questions about the job. It chases the quote if they go quiet and asks for the Google review once the job is done. There's no new number to give out.
Worth a look next: the missed call calculator, to see what your own missed calls cost, how the text back works, and the website chat widget for enquiries that come through your site. The guides on texts to copy, setting up the divert and whether it's legal cover the practical bits. Prices are on the pricing page.
